Could it be possible the more you visit Marrakech the more you fall in love with it? One cannot imagine a more delightful weekend away.
Constructed in the 12th century, the red city transports you to another dimension. Jemaa el-Fna, Africa’s biggest square, is uniquely dotted with exotic snake charmers, storytellers and potion sellers. The hustle and bustle of the city’s souks, the vivid smells and the vision of the bright spices captivate the eye. Freshly-dyed carpets hang from the sides of stalls, along with the most unimaginably beautiful pottery collection, perfectly displayed in stall after stall. Gold and silver mirrors and lamps shining in the bright light, Alladin and his genie must be close by.
Away from the buzzing medina area Marrakech is carpeted with luscious green gardens. Yves Saint Laurent’s, Jardin Majorelle, an artist’s landscape, hosting various bird species and a collection of cacti and sculptures is a must visit.
Before ending the perfect day, it’s time to unwind with a hammam visit, to cleanse the body and soul. As cocktail time approached we headed to the stunning newly refurbed Mamounia lounge. One has to visit it to believe it. We giggled when we overheard people still gossiping about ‘Inventing Anna’ being filmed on the premises.
For live music and a singalong, we ended our perfect day at Palace Jad Mahal. Marrakech has something for everyone. If not already a ‘bucket list’ must.
Love who you are.
